Try something new for two weeks
Join our March Refresh đ
Hi there!
First, thank you to everyone who joined our live Zoom yesterday with Kim Strother. It was such a fun and easy conversation and I love being able to connect people I personally admire online to the ah.mi community.
In case you missed it, Iâm going to share a few takeaways from the conversation and also what weâre doing together as an ah.mi community this month.
The best part of our virtual chats is taking the inspiration and actually trying something together.
A few things that stuck with me from our conversation with Kim
Kim is a personal trainer and one of the OG creators on the Melissa Wood Health app, and she also teaches a paleo-based approach to nutrition.
What I loved most about the conversation was how honest Kim was about how she got here. Her wellness journey didnât start with a perfect routine. It started with her navigating why she was feeling terrible.
After many years of dealing with a long list of symptoms, Kim was diagnosed with Lyme disease (and later, endometriosis). Eventually, a functional medicine doctor suggested something pretty drastic at the time: eliminating sugar, dairy, and grains to see how her body responded.
That experiment ended up changing everything for her.
One thing she emphasized that I appreciated: this level of elimination is not a fix or a necessity for everyone, and she also doesnât expect people to overhaul their lives overnight.
Instead, she encourages people to try it for two weeks and just observe how they feel. That felt very ah.mi to me.
Some other things she shared:
⢠Her go-to breakfast is usually two scrambled eggs with a Siete wrap
⢠She aims for at least 30g protein per meal, but sheâs not one to count macros or calories
⢠She often snacks on Chomps or coconut yogurt with berries or almond butter
⢠She reads labels carefully because even âhealthyâ products can sneak in a lot of added sugar
She also talked about how she handles social situations and travel and her answer was very ah.mi energy.
The workout side of things
We talked about Kimâs work creating workouts for Melissa Wood Health, which was fascinating.
She films multiple workouts at a time and theyâre usually around 20 minutes (we love a quickie workout).
The biggest takeaway from that part of the conversation reaffirmed something I needed to hear⌠which is that you donât need an hour-long workout to build strength. Consistency with shorter workouts actually works.
What weâre doing together this month
Instead of just listening to an insightful convo and moving on with our lives, I thought it would be fun to actually try a few things together as a community this month.
Hereâs the plan for our March Refresh:
1. Weâre doing the Melissa Wood Health 7-Day Total Body Tone challenge
Kim shared a free 30-day code for the Melissa Wood Health app (for ah.mi paid subscribers), so if youâve been curious about it or have been wanting to re-download, this is the perfect time.
As a group, weâre going to do the 7-Day Total Body Tone challenge inside the app... but on our own time! Anytime in the month of March. Tell us when you do the classes in the ah.mi chat.
The workouts are short and doable, but youâll feel them later!
2. Pick ONE nutrition goal
Instead of overhauling everything, letâs choose one small nutrition shift inspired by the conversation.
A few ideas Kim mentioned:
⢠Reducing added sugar
⢠Minimum 30g protein at each meal
⢠Removing grains or dairy
⢠Reading ingredient labels more carefully
You donât have to go full paleo unless you want to.
The goal is just to experiment and notice how you feel.
Why I love doing things this way
If youâve been around ah.mi for a while, you know the philosophy here is to make habits realistic and doable so you can stick with them.
Like our original mantra: Greens. Water. Move. Repeat. :)
